MOSTI explores hydrogen tech for net-zero mobility
Date: March 28, 2024. — The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in Malaysia is actively exploring the use of hydrogen technology within the mobility sector. This initiative is part of the country’s efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, aligning with the objectives set out in the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR).
MOSTI has announced plans to engage in discussions with relevant ministries and agencies to promote the adoption of hydrogen technology. This includes creating a group of end-users in Malaysia to further the application of this clean energy source. A recent demonstration session was held at the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, attended by key ministers, showcasing the potential of hydrogen technology in transportation.
To showcase the potential of this technology, MOSTI recently held a demonstration session. Additionally, they plan to partner with private companies for the development of a mobile hydrogen refueling station. This project will not only provide refueling infrastructure but also serve as a testament to the expertise of Malaysia’s workforce in leading the future hydrogen economy.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles offer an alternative to traditional gasoline-powered cars. They produce electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water vapor as a byproduct. Moreover, this clean technology can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a more sustainable transportation sector.
MOSTI’s exploration of hydrogen technology marks a significant step towards a greener future for Malaysia. By promoting clean mobility solutions, the ministry aims to create a more sustainable transportation landscape while positioning Malaysia as a key player in the hydrogen economy.
