Mahindra’s Vision-T concept signals electric future for Thar family

News, 15 August 2025

At its “Freedom NU” event on Independence Day, Mahindra unveiled the Vision T—a sleek, five-door, lifestyle-focused SUV that hints at the future electric evolution of the iconic Thar. Built on the new NU_IQ modular monocoque platform, this concept blends rugged Thar DNA with modern design and multi-energy adaptability. Positioned to launch in production form by 2027, it may undercut the Thar Roxx in price, expanding Mahindra’s electric lineup and reinforcing its Vision 2027 strategic roadmap.

Mahindra’s Vision T concept marries the rugged charm of the Thar with future-ready innovation. Unveiled at the brand’s annual Freedom NU event on August 15, it represents a crucial step toward an electric—and even hybrid—future for one of India’s most beloved off-road vehicles.

Built on the newly introduced NU_IQ platform, Vision T is modular and compact, supporting multiple powertrains—including ICE, hybrid, and EV variants. This flexibility allows Mahindra to adapt rapidly to market demands while sharing parts across models like the BE 6 and XEV 9e.

Design-wise, the Vision T remains unmistakably Thar-ish—with a boxy silhouette, flared arches, rear-mounted spare wheel, visible bonnet latches, and pronounced LED DRLs. The updated split grille and rugged bumpers elevate its on-road sophistication without losing off-road sensibility.

Inside, the concept boasts a modern, tech-centric interior: a large vertical infotainment screen, digital driver display, and a minimalist layout with durable materials—all aligned with current Mahindra tech trends.

Strategically priced between ₹12 lakh and ₹22 lakh (ex-showroom), Vision T aims to undercut even the Thar Roxx, broadening its appeal. With production likely slated for 2027, this model plays a key role in Mahindra’s broader Vision 2027 EV expansion plan.

Overall, Vision T isn’t just a concept—it’s a bridge between Mahindra’s off-road legacy and its electric future, designed for both urban streets and untamed trails. Expect further reveals soon—this concept signals that the next-gen Thar may very well drive green.
