Mahindra & Mahindra has joined forces with indie Semiconductor to equip its new Electric Origin SUVs with advanced in-cabin safety monitoring software. Under the deal, indie’s CABIN EYE® perception software developed by the recently acquired emotion3D team will be paired with Mahindra’s EyeDentity camera-based driver and occupant monitoring hardware. This AI-powered solution is designed to keep an eye on driver alertness, distraction, responsiveness, and the position of people inside the cabin, helping enhance safety and comfort for occupants. The system is already active on the road in Mahindra’s BE 6 and XEV 9e electric models, which have earned top 5-star ratings in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program.
The collaboration goes beyond current testing standards in India by adding real-time monitoring capabilities that can detect issues like drowsy or inattentive driving, a growing requirement as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) evolve. Thanks to over-the-air updates, Mahindra can continually improve these features throughout the life of the vehicle. According to indie, its CABIN EYE software offers high accuracy and fast processing while keeping resource use low, meaning it works efficiently across different camera and sensor setups without extensive customization. The partnership underscores both companies’ focus on raising safety and technology benchmarks in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle segment.
