Kaynes Semicon strengthens India’s semiconductor ambitions with global partnerships

18 December 2025

India’s drive to become a global semiconductor powerhouse received a significant boost this week as Kaynes Semicon, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Ltd, announced strategic partnerships with AOI Electronics Co., Ltd. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. — two major Japanese firms with deep expertise across semiconductor technology and materials supply. The announcement, confirmed across multiple reputable outlets, marks a notable step forward for India’s semiconductor ecosystem and its positioning in the global chip value chain.

These collaborations aim to accelerate India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities by combining world-class technical know-how with robust supply-chain support — an essential foundation as the country works toward self-reliance under initiatives like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat

Advanced packaging expertise from AOI Electronics

The first pillar of this initiative centers on a technology collaboration with AOI Electronics, a Japanese company renowned for its work in semiconductor back-end processes — particularly advanced packagingpanel-level packaging, and wafer-level redistribution layer (RDL) technologies. These technologies are critical in the modern chip manufacturing landscape, enabling higher performance, better power efficiency, and more compact designs that are increasingly demanded by automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, and communications sectors.

By tapping into AOI’s expertise, Kaynes Semicon plans to develop a turnkey back-end semiconductor solutions portfolio that can compete on a global scale. This encompasses not only packaging technology but also systems integration capabilities that will help India serve major OEMs and electronics manufacturers with higher-value semiconductor products.

Securing materials with Mitsui & Co.

On the supply-chain front, Kaynes Semicon also forged a strategic alliance with Mitsui & Co., a globally diversified trading and investment powerhouse active in more than 60 countries. This partnership is focused on ensuring reliable access to critical raw materials — such as lead frames, molding compounds, die-attach materials, specialty gases, and semiconductor-grade chemicals — that are indispensable for chip fabrication and packaging.

Accessing these inputs consistently and at scale has been a persistent challenge for emerging semiconductor hubs worldwide. By partnering with Mitsui, Kaynes aims to mitigate supply chain disruptions and establish a more resilient ecosystem that can withstand market volatility and geopolitical pressures.

Supporting India’s semiconductor vision

Together, these partnerships are far more than conventional business tie-ups — they are strategic building blocks in India’s long-term plan to cultivate indigenous semiconductor capability across design, manufacturing, and packaging. As global demand for chips surges across critical sectors like automotive electronics, renewable energy systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, India’s role in the semiconductor market has never been more important.

Industry leaders view the collaborations as a vote of confidence in India’s semiconductor potential, reflecting increased international willingness to invest in and transfer high–value technology. Kaynes Semicon’s CEO described the alliances as a “leap forward” in creating high-value semiconductor capabilities within the country.

In practical terms, the partnerships are expected to underpin advanced manufacturing and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing) operations, which are slated to begin scaling in the coming years with planned facilities in Gujarat and other industrial hubs. These developments align with government-backed infrastructure support and incentives aimed at accelerating domestic production and attracting foreign direct investment.

What this means for India and the world

For India, this move bolsters a strategic sector critical to economic growth, national security, and technological sovereignty. For global electronics supply chains, it signals another resilient node in semiconductor production and assembly. And for enterprises seeking diversified manufacturing bases, this development further legitimizes India as a competitive destination for cutting-edge semiconductor work.

In essence, the Kaynes Semicon alliances with AOI Electronics and Mitsui & Co. represent more than corporate collaboration — they illustrate how India’s semiconductor ecosystem is rapidly evolving from ambition into measurable industrial capability.
