India approves ₹5,532 crore in projects under new electronics component scheme
Press Release, 29 October 2025
The Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), launched by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, has given the go-ahead to its first batch of seven projects, together investing over ₹5,500 crore. These units—set across Tamil Nadu (5), Andhra Pradesh (1) and Madhya Pradesh (1)—are expected to generate production worth around ₹36,559 crore and create more than 5,100 direct jobs.
The approved plants will manufacture key components such as multi-layer and high-density printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera modules, copper clad laminates and polypropylene films. By doing so, they aim to meet 100 % of India’s copper clad laminate demand, about 20 % of PCB requirements and 15 % of camera-module needs domestically—while exporting approximately 60 % of their output. The scheme has already drawn strong interest, with 249 applications representing proposed investment of ₹1.15 lakh crore, production value of ₹10.34 lakh crore and potential for 1.42 lakh jobs.
This move marks a strategic shift from merely assembling finished electronic goods toward mastering the component and material side of the value chain. The government says that by reducing import dependence and building high-skill manufacturing for defence, telecom, EVs and renewables, India is strengthening its electronics ecosystem. The ECMS is seen as complementary to initiatives such as the Production‑Linked Incentive Scheme and India Semiconductor Mission, jointly paving the way for a self-reliant electronics manufacturing base.
