In-vehicle voice AI now lets you book restaurant reservations on the go

SoundHound AI and OpenTable are teaming up to bring voice-activated restaurant reservations directly into your car’s infotainment system, creating a hands-free experience for drivers and passengers. With this new integration, drivers can simply speak to the vehicle’s built-in voice assistant to find, select and book a table at more than 60,000 restaurants worldwide — without taking their eyes off the road or tapping on a screen.

The feature works as part of SoundHound’s voice commerce platform. When you want to make a reservation, just tell the AI what you need — for example, “Find a popular steakhouse nearby for dinner.” The system then suggests options, checks real-time availability through OpenTable’s network, and confirms the booking, all through natural voice dialogue. Confirmation details can be sent to your email and the assistant can even offer navigation directions to your selected restaurant.

SoundHound says this collaboration marks a big step forward in in-vehicle convenience, expanding the role of voice AI beyond simple requests like navigation or music control to full transactional tasks such as restaurant planning. The company first introduced its in-car voice commerce concept at CES 2025 with food ordering capabilities, and this OpenTable partnership extends that vision by making table reservations equally effortless and safe while driving.

This voice AI reservation system is designed to enhance safety and usability — minimizing manual input and distractions for drivers. The broader goal for SoundHound is to embed conversational AI deeply into everyday travel experiences, opening the door to other potential hands-free services like parking, ticketing, and appointment booking in the future.
