IGNiTE 4.0: NSDC & Mercedes-Benz launch skilling drive

India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz India to roll out IGNiTE 4.0 — a 12-month training initiative targeting 1,000 youth from underserved communities to equip them with skills in electric mobility and Industry 4.0 domains.

What is IGNiTE 4.0?

IGNiTE 4.0 is a skilling programme focused on future automotive technologies — especially electric vehicles (EVs), quality control, product testing, and advanced manufacturing / industry 4.0 systems. Training will take place at two new Skill Development Centres in Delhi-NCR (Manav Rachna University) and Pune (MIT ADT University) under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). The implementation partner is Kedman Skilling Pvt Ltd

IGNiTE 4.0 also mandates 30% participation of women, embeds entrepreneurship development, and offers placement support and long-term mentorship to ensure sustainable outcomes.

What do NSDC and Mercedes-Benz stand to gain?

IGNiTE 4.0 advances India’s push to build a future-ready workforce in the automotive and EV sectors at a time when electrification and smart manufacturing are transforming mobility. The initiative aligns with national goals to generate millions of jobs in mobility and the EV ecosystem — the government sees 45 million jobs in mobility overall, with 9 million in EVs. By investing in skill development, NSDC enhances inclusivity, gives opportunities to underserved youth, and strengthens India’s competitiveness in high-tech manufacturing. The program helps build a local talent pipeline for advanced automotive and EV roles, reducing future skill gaps for the industry at large.

Mercedes-Benz India may have access early talent who are already trained in EV / advanced manufacturing domains, possibly easing future recruitment and operations as India’s auto industry evolves.
