Hyundai Motor Group unveils AI robotics strategy at CES 2026
Press Release, 6 January 2026
At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Hyundai Motor Group revealed an ambitious new strategy to lead the emerging era of human‑centered AI robotics, marking a significant evolution beyond traditional automotive innovation. Under the theme “Partnering Human Progress,” the company outlined its vision to develop intelligent robots that work safely and collaboratively with people starting in industrial settings and expanding into broader real‑world applications. By leveraging partnerships with robotics pioneers like Boston Dynamics and global AI leaders, Hyundai aims to build an end‑to‑end value chain spanning hardware, software, manufacturing, training and deployment, all rooted in what it calls Physical AI technology that enables machines to sense, learn and act autonomously in physical environments.
Central to Hyundai’s strategy is the idea of robots that can help with complex or risky tasks while keeping humans in control, enhancing productivity and safety across industries. A highlight of the CES showcase was the Atlas humanoid robot, designed with advanced sensors, AI and mobility to perform demanding tasks from material handling to precision assembly with minimal human intervention. Hyundai plans to progressively deploy Atlas robots within its own manufacturing ecosystem before scaling to broader commercial use, reflecting its focus on real‑world readiness rather than concept technology.
To support this vision, Hyundai is building a Group Value Network that unites its affiliates including Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai Glovis with strategic partners to accelerate robotics innovation, production, logistics and customer services. This network aims to harness vast amounts of real‑world data from manufacturing and mobility operations to continuously improve AI models through a virtuous cycle of learning and deployment. The company also plans dedicated facilities like the Physical AI Application Center and expanded smart factory infrastructure to validate and scale robotic systems efficiently.
With a clear roadmap and industrial partnerships, Hyundai’s CES announcement positions the Group as a key player in the future of robotics, where humans and machines work side‑by‑side to redefine productivity, safety and innovation in the AI age.
