Hyper EV brand achieves breakthrough in solid-state batteries
Date: April 15, 2024. — The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand Hyper, part of GAC Aion, focuses on electric vehicles and is making strides with its development of long-range solid-state batteries for future models, has announced a significant advancement in battery technology. They have completed the research and development of all-solid-state batteries, which are set to be incorporated into Hyper cars by 2026.
These new batteries boast an impressive 400 watt-hour per kilogram energy density. This is a substantial improvement over current lithium-ion batteries. This advancement could potentially offer a driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) on a single charge. The solid-state batteries are expected to provide improved safety, a longer lifespan, and faster charging capabilities.
In the pursuit of solid-state battery technology, GAC Aion’s Hyper brand joins other Chinese automakers like Nio and IM Motors. However, mass production of these batteries remains a challenge that has yet to be overcome by any manufacturer.
The introduction of all-solid-state batteries by Hyper could mark a significant leap forward for the EV industry if successful. Moreover, it promises longer ranges and more efficient energy usage. The year 2026 is anticipated to be a pivotal moment when these advancements could start to materialize in consumer vehicles.
