Gujarat Govt, KP Group ink ₹8,000 Cr MoU to build Hydrogen & EV fuel network
News, 13 October 2025
In a bold move toward clean mobility infrastructure, the Government of Gujarat and KP Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invest ₹8,000 crore in setting up a statewide network of hydrogen and electric vehicle (EV) fuel stations.
The pact was formalized at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference at Ganpat University, Mehsana, on October 9, 2025. On behalf of Gujarat, Bhakti Shamal, Joint Secretary of Energy & Petrochemicals, signed it; Affan Patel, Director of KP Group, represented the private side.
Under this agreement, KP Group will roll out hydrogen and EV refueling hubs across the state, initially focusing on Banaskantha district and targeting operational readiness by 2026. The project is expected to generate around 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
To ensure smooth execution, Gujarat’s government will assist with required permits, approvals, and clearances from energy, environmental, and infrastructure departments.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Faruk G. Patel, founding promoter of KP Group, said that the move underscores the company’s commitment to driving India’s transition to green mobility. He emphasized Gujarat’s position as a forerunner in clean energy and said the hydrogen + EV fuel network would boost confidence for fleet operators, heavy transport, and last-mile mobility sectors.
This strategic partnership marks a key inflection point: as EV adoption increases, the lack of reliable hydrogen and charging infrastructure has remained a hurdle. By bridging that gap, Gujarat is positioning itself to lead in India’s clean mobility push — potentially becoming a testbed for hydrogen-EV hybrid ecosystems in India.
