Gemini update for Android Auto on horizon
Google has recently rolled out several enhancements, including the integration of its AI-driven assistant, Gemini, into smartwatches, TVs, and the automotive sector via Android Auto updates.
The 14.4 software update, currently in beta testing, introduces subtle refinements to the ‘Coolwalk screen.’ This interface consolidates various applications into a user-friendly, single-screen experience on Android Auto-compatible head units and vehicles utilizing the Android Automotive OS.
A notable alteration involves the repositioning of media playback controls, which may disrupt established user habits. As Auto Evolution reported, the play/pause button has been shifted to the left side of the screen in left-hand-drive vehicles, placing it closer to the driver but swapping its location with the rewind/previous button.
Since these changes are presently confined to the beta program, Google has the opportunity to incorporate user feedback and implement further adjustments as needed. Gemini enhances the driving experience Google is expanding Gemini’s availability across a range of smart devices, such as watches, headphones, and smart glasses, enabling users to receive recommendations and answers to queries through natural voice interactions.
This feature also elevates the existing Google Assistant voice commands within Android Auto infotainment systems and vehicles equipped with Android Automotive. Consequently, drivers and passengers can verbally request specific points of interest along their route, such as pet-friendly service stations or nearby fast-charging locations.
When connected to a messaging application, Google indicates that Gemini can condense incoming messages and even translate them into different languages before transmission, facilitating communication with multilingual contacts.
Gemini aims to streamline the user experience by minimizing the need to switch between apps. Users can now request Gemini to provide summaries of news headlines (including or excluding sports) and address challenging questions often posed by children during extended trips.
Google anticipates that Gemini will be available on Android Auto in the “coming months,” followed by vehicles operating on the native Android Automotive OS.
