France launches highway that wirelessly charges electric trucks in motion
A consortium led by Electreon Wireless Ltd and VINCI Autoroutes has unveiled a 1.5-kilometre section of the A10 motorway near Paris that enables electric vehicles — including heavy freight trucks — to charge wirelessly while driving at highway speeds. Independent laboratory tests by Gustave Eiffel University show the embedded system can continuously deliver over 200 kW of power and peak beyond 300 kW, more than enough to power a fully loaded heavy-duty truck.
This breakthrough marks a key turning point in electric freight mobility. By embedding coils under the roadway surface, the infrastructure allows trucks, buses, vans and cars to keep moving — no plugging in, no stopping. This makes heavy-vehicle electrification far more practical by reducing downtime and smaller battery sizes, tackling major hurdles for logistics fleets. The system’s real-traffic validation under highway conditions confirms its durability and readiness for scaling. With France targeting thousands of kilometres of wireless road by 2035, this project could reshape how goods are transported sustainably.
