Foxconn may setup BESS plant in Tamil Nadu
Foxconn is likely to open its second-largest battery plant in Tamil Nadu.
Foxconn may likely build the second-largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the world in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has offered to provide 200 acres of land for the project in Manalur, which is located in the Tiruvallur district, around 50 kilometers north of Chennai.
According to news reported, Foxconn’s Chairman Young Liu’s visit during August 2024 to India, he showed interest in growing business beyond smartphones in areas like digital health, energy, and electric vehicles (EVs). Liu highlighted Foxconn’s interest in batteries as a component of its broader energy-related EV strategy. During his most recent trip to India, he had discussion on possible cooperation on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with the Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries.
Foxconn has chosen three important industries—robotics, digital health and electric vehicles—each with significant development potential as part of its “3+3 strategy.”
