On 28 November 2024, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi declared extension of the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy to 31 March 2025, following a cabinet meeting.
The Delhi cabinet has agreed to extend the EV policy and continue with subsidies and road tax exemptions. The Delhi EV policy aims to have 25% of all newly registered vehicles in the state be electric vehicles.
In financial year 2024- 12% of total registered vehicles in the region were EVs—the highest in the country and double the national average of 6%.
Earlier in September 2024 Delhi Government had removed road tax exemption for electric cars and two-wheelers, which is said to have had a negative impact on electric vehicle (EV) sales in the capital city of the country.
According to Vahan data as of 30 October 2024, sales of two-wheeler EVs reached 1.4 lakh units, the highest level since March 2024, just before the Center’s FAME-II program came to an end.
