Cyient Semiconductors expands global footprint with major US acquisition

In one of the most significant moves of the year in the semiconductor sector, Cyient Semiconductors — the chip-design arm of India’s Cyient Ltd — has struck a definitive deal to acquire a majority stake in US-based Kinetic Technologies for up to $93 million. This strategic acquisition marks a bold push by an Indian semiconductor player into the global power management and analog IC (integrated circuit) market and strengthens its capabilities across multiple high-growth tech segments.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cyient Semiconductors’ Singapore subsidiary will acquire more than 65 % ownership of Kinetic Technologies, a fabless semiconductor company headquartered in San Jose, California. The transaction is expected to close by April 30, 2026, subject to customary conditions, and will be paid entirely in cash.

Why this deal matters
Kinetic Technologies brings deep expertise in power management, analog, and mixed-signal ICs — a portfolio that includes solutions for power conversion, protection, interface logic, and display power management. These chips are vital components in a wide range of modern electronic systems, from data centers and industrial automation to automotive electronics and emerging edge AI workloads.

By integrating Kinetic’s technology and teams with its own growing semiconductor platform, Cyient aims to fast-track its entry into the $40 billion global power semiconductor market while also strengthening its position in other strategic domains such as high-performance computing (HPC), electrification, networking, and IoT (Internet of Things).

Leadership voices on the acquisition
Suman Narayan, CEO of Cyient Semiconductors, emphasized that the combined entity will harness the best of both companies’ capabilities. “Combining Kinetic’s power management and protection IC depth with Cyient Semiconductors’ custom ASIC engine materially strengthens our platform strategy, especially in addressing the exploding demand for AI-centric and high-performance systems,” he said. The acquisition is expected to shorten development cycles and enhance the ability to solve complex power, thermal, and reliability challenges in large-scale systems.

Kin Shum, CEO of Kinetic Technologies, echoed the optimism, noting that the company will benefit from broader market access, talent availability in India, and the strategic backing of a global partner. He pointed to India’s semiconductor ecosystem as being on the cusp of rapid transformation — much like other Asian markets experienced over the past decade.

Strategic and market impact
The acquisition accelerates Cyient’s ambition to lead in custom power ICs — chips tailored for specific applications in edge AI, automotive electrification, data centers, and industrial automation. Leveraging Kinetic’s existing patents (over 100 in power and protection technologies) and established customer relationships, Cyient is positioning itself as a formidable player in both ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) design and high-performance analog solutions.

Importantly, the deal also underscores India’s growing role in the semiconductor value chain — a national priority backed by public and private initiatives — as Indian companies increasingly move from design services to technology ownership and product leadership.
