CRUT initiates trial of ADAS in Mo Bus in Odisha

News, 27 February 2025
The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) is an initiative aimed at enhancing urban mobility in India. CRUT focuses on improving public transportation infrastructure, which includes developing bus rapid transit systems, metro rail networks, and integrated transport facilities to ensure seamless connectivity between different modes of transport. Leveraging technology is a crucial aspect of CRUT’s strategy. Implementing intelligent transport systems (ITS) for real-time tracking, smart ticketing, and data analytics helps increase the efficiency and reliability of public transport services.
“Mo Bus” which is a public transportation initiative launched in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, India; and managed by the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited and the Odisha State Transport Authority, the Mo Bus service aims to provide a reliable, efficient, and smart bus transport system for the citizens of Bhubaneswar and the surrounding areas.
To reduce road accidents involving Mo Buses, CRUT has initiated trial runs of vehicles equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) as part of its plan to incorporate it into its entire fleet.
As per the statement from CRUT officials, ADAS sensors will notify drivers as they near another vehicle. Furthermore, the system will assist drivers in recognizing the traffic signals and lanes they are meant to use. In addition, it will keep track of the maximum speed limit established at 40 km/h for urban zones.
Approximately eight to ten suppliers have shown interest in supplying aftermarket ADAS to CRUT.
The trial is being conducted in four different types of buses, including e-buses. It will go on for 10 days, after which a tender will be issued to finalize the vendor. According to CRUT official, the system will be connected to CRUT’s command control centre, allowing them to monitor drivers in real time. After successful pilot project, ADAS will be incorporated into all 520 Mo Buses, which includes 150 e-buses in the cities of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Rourkela.
