BMW & LUYUAN join hands to bring smart micromobility to cities

The BMW Group has officially licensed two of its electric micromobility designs — Dynamic Cargo and Clever Commute — to Chinese mobility-manufacturer LUYUAN Group, marking a major step toward cleaner, more flexible urban transport. The agreement was signed in Hangzhou on November 26, 2025.

Dynamic Cargo is a three-wheeled electric cargo bike that combines the nimbleness of a bicycle with the load-carrying capacity of a small vehicle — even offering an optional modular weather-protection system for year-round use. Meanwhile, Clever Commute is a foldable e-kick scooter designed as an ideal “last mile” solution: light enough to carry on public transit or in a car, yet stable enough for safe daily rides.

LUYUAN plans to deploy these concepts globally under its own brand names, contributing to light-mobility networks worldwide. The Chinese firm — known for having served over 30 million users across 80+ countries — aims to combine its manufacturing strength with BMW’s micromobility innovations to deliver sustainable urban mobility solutions.

According to Dr Jochen Karg of BMW, the move is part of BMW’s broader vision to reduce urban congestion and emissions by offering scalable, city-friendly transport alternatives. LUYUAN’s CEO added that development will leverage additional expertise — including engineering support from German firm Faissner Petermeier Fahrzeugtechnik AG and design input from BMW’s innovation studio Designworks — to meet global safety and quality standards.

This partnership signals growing industry focus on micromobility as a viable answer to urban transportation challenges — offering eco-friendly, flexible, and accessible alternatives to conventional cars in congested city environments.
