Blue Energy Motors aims for ~95% localisation as it builds India battery-pack line

News, 17 November 2025

Blue Energy Motors (BEM), backed by Essar Group, Iveco Group, and other strategic investors, announced plans to commission an in-country battery-pack manufacturing line for its heavy-duty EV and LNG trucks, with the aim of lifting localisation to nearly 95% over the next 12-14 months.

Currently its LNG trucks achieve around 70% domestic content and its EVs about 50%. The new battery-pack line will reduce reliance on imports—with battery cells potentially still sourced externally—and reinforce BEM’s strategy to scale up quickly. Alongside this, the company is rolling out battery-swap and charging infrastructure across logistics corridors, targeting a fleet of roughly 2,000 LNG and EV vehicles in the coming year after raising around US$50 million.

This move positions BEM strongly in India’s transition to clean freight. By integrating manufacturing, vehicle production and infrastructure support, the company looks to provide fleet operators a more affordable electric solution and better supply-chain resilience. The localisation push also aligns with India’s broader “Make-in-India” and clean mobility goals, making BEM one to watch in the commercial EV space.
