Baidu, Geely to establish intelligent electric vehicle company
Baidu, Inc., Chinese search engine giant, announced that it plans to establish a company with Geely to build intelligent electric vehicles. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group will be a strategic partner for the new company, which will operate as an independent subsidiary of the technology company.
The new company, with an aim to provide passenger vehicles, will cover the entire industrial chain, including vehicle design, R&D, manufacturing, sales and service. Baidu will provide its full portfolio of core technologies, including Apollo autonomous driving, DuerOS for Apollo, and Baidu Maps while Geely will contribute its expertise in vehicle manufacturing.
Both parties will work together closely in vehicle manufacturing and will leverage Geely’s pure electric vehicle architecture Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), to jointly develop the next generation of intelligent vehicles.
