Avride and Uber gear up for Dallas robotaxi launch
News, 5 September 2025
Autonomous vehicle startup Avride is preparing to scale its operations by launching a robotaxi service in Dallas, in partnership with Uber. Testing has already begun, with a public rollout expected by the end of 2025.
The fleet will be based on the Hyundai IONIQ 5 EV, combining sustainable design with self-driving technology. Avride previously partnered with Uber for autonomous delivery pilots and with Grubhub on robotic delivery services. This marks its biggest passenger-focused initiative yet.
Dallas was strategically chosen for its supportive regulatory environment, road infrastructure, and climate, which are favorable for autonomous testing. Over the coming months, Avride vehicles will undergo intensive safety validations to ensure readiness for commercial deployment.
For Uber, the move signals a re-entry into the robotaxi race after it scaled back its in-house efforts in 2020. By leaning on partners like Avride, Uber reduces development costs while remaining competitive with Waymo and Cruise in the race toward driverless ride-hailing.
If successful, the Dallas launch could set the stage for nationwide deployment of autonomous taxis via the Uber platform. Passengers will eventually be able to book rides through the Uber app, ushering in a new era of mobility that could transform urban transportation.
