ASTC launches app for Guwahati cabs

Date: November 20, 2023.The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has launched a new city cab service in Guwahati, which allows customers to pay through Unified Payments Interface (UPI), a digital payment system.

Customers can use the ‘ASTC City Cab’ app to book cabs with low fares and no cancellation fees. The app includes features such as an emergency panic button, an airport hotline button, and an AI chatbot helpdesk. Designers create these to ensure passenger safety and support. The software may be downloaded on both the Android and iOS platforms.

ASTC, with an impressive fleet of 9,000 taxis, aims to revolutionize transportation services by providing seamless rides to people’s doorsteps. Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya launched this initiative, signaling a significant stride in enhancing convenience, affordability, and the overall commuting experience for the residents of Assam, according to Rahul Ch Das, the Managing Director of ASTC.

Das highlighted the user-friendly aspects of the service. He emphasized that the ASTC city cab service is easily accessible through a dedicated mobile application. This app not only enables real-time tracking of rides. It also ensures a hassle-free payment process through digital platforms such as UPI, promising a more efficient and convenient travel experience for the people of Assam.

The service’s driver-friendly model allows drivers to join the platform without having to pay a commission for each ride. Apart from a small daily charge of Rs. 12.50, this feature is one of its main selling points. It is anticipated that this will improve drivers’ availability and earning potential. Additionally, it expects to open up jobs for some 50,000 taxis in the area.

ASTC pioneers the integration of UPI technology into its city cab service, and experts anticipate that this move will set a precedent for other public transportation systems across the country. The launch marks a significant stride towards a more digitized and user-friendly future for urban commuting in Guwahati.
