Springworks, whose Spark connected car platform recently went live via Telia Company’s Sense service, said it is targeting its product at the European car market of 258 million cars. Springworks said it is offering Spark as white label software-as-a-service to mobile operators, who can charge an activation fee and monthly subscription.
A white label product or service, the provider of the service purchases a fully supported product from another source, then applies its own brand and identity to it, and sells it as its own product. The purchaser assumes the seller is selling its own product. SaaS is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted.
By 2020, the Springworks expects Spark to enable mobile operators to monetise much of the untapped international connected car ecosystem. New legislative requirements are driving this market, as from 01 April 2018, all new passenger cars in Europe must be fitted with a modem that can send a crash alert to emergency services.
