OmniVision announces availability of an automotive reference design system (ARDS)

OmniVision Technologies, a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions has announced the availability of an automotive reference design system (ARDS) that provides a plug-and-play platform for developing automotive imaging systems.

omnivision_T'wireThe lack of modularity and integration difficulties in current approaches to system design force automotive OEMs to design their own modules and often wait for third-party developments. Additionally, existing demo systems are not suitable for mounting on a vehicle for evaluation and testing, and do not allow for real-time video testing. As a result, time-to-market is slow and costly.

The modular approach allows automotive imaging-system and software developers to mix and match image sensors, image signal processors and long-distance serializer modules. Thus, ARDS reduces the design efforts and resources required to develop working prototype solutions. It allows customers to design-in OmniVision image sensors and image signal processors and reduces the cost and time of evaluating and testing a new system.

With its compact form factor, OmniVision’s ARDS is ideally suited for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), rear video mirrors, camera monitor systems (CMS) and dash cameras.
