Mycroft is the latest member of GENIVI alliance. As we know GENIVI is a nonprofit industry alliance committed to driving the broad adoption of open source, In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) software and providing open technology for the connected car.
The alliance provides its members with a global networking community of more than 140 companies, joining connected car stakeholders with world-class developers in a collaborative environment, resulting in free, open source middleware.
Mycroft is the world’s first open source voice assistant. It can run anywhere – on a desktop computer, inside an automobile, it even runs on a Raspberry Pi. It is open so it can be remixed, extended, improved. It can be used in anything from a science project to an enterprise software application. Recently, there has been a trend seen where the auto manufacturers are adding voice assistant technologies like Amazon Alexa and Microsoft Cortana to their vehicles. Considering that Mycroft joining the alliance is a very significant event.
