At a recent event IFA 2016 in Berlin,  Mercedes-Benz has announced a new project called In Car Office to incorporate smart productivity features into your ride. For this initiative, Mercedes-Benz and Microsoft are partnering up to enable drivers to be more productive while on the road and away from the office.

With “In Car Office,” Microsoft Exchange will be integrated into the car’s dashboard allowing the driver to view their work calendar. Microsoft Exchange will also allow the Mercedes-Benz to be able to alert the driver about an upcoming conference call and automatically provide them with navigational directions to their next appointment. Therefore, based on a driver’s to-do-list, the car will also provide suggestions regarding calls the driver can make while driving to their next destination.

Mercedes’ In Car Office features will do things like pre-populate the navigation system with destination from your Exchange calendar, and also provide notifications offering to make calls using the in-car voice call system when you have upcoming meetings marked on your calendar.

Moreover, this combined technology partnership is definitely going to curb down distractions and minimize manual input required for tasks that people already (unsafely) try to tackle during longer commutes or road trips during business hours.

The ‘In Car Office’ feature will be available in Mercedes cars from the first half of 2017.

Earlier this year, Microsoft has also announced its plans to partner with Harman International Industries Inc. and Volvo Group to bring its productivity tools into vehicles, its first step into the connected car market.

While driver is on the go, this feature is going to help them perform other tasks. It is designed to help you more easily accomplish work-related tasks you’d probably field on-the-go anyway.
