Jaguar Land Rover is developing a high-end electric car expected to be branded Road Rover, according to a report by Autocar. The car is expected to be launched by 2019 and will be aimed at US and Chinese market.
Road Rover may be launched with next-generation car Jaguar XJ, both the cars will feature a pure electric drivetrain with two motors and on-demand all-wheel drive, but the latter will also have the off-road capacity. The cars seem to be the continuation of the strategy of the company regarding production of electric vehicles which started with the unveiling of its concept car I-PACE, a fully electric vehicle, last year.
At present, the specifications of the car have not been revealed but it is being speculated that it may have a 300-mile range and will rival Mercedes S-Class. Almost all the automakers have shifted their focus towards electric vehicles and are tranforming their businesses and designing their newer models accordingly, be it newer entrants like Tesla or older players like Mercedes-Benz,GM, Nissan, Volkswagen, Mazda, Toyota, Volvo etc. Rising awareness for clean energy, encouragement by the governments and ease of appending advanced technologies to the vehicle can be understood as the reason behind this trend.
