Major BPO companies in the city and the cab owners have reached an agreement regarding the installation of GPS devices in the cabs, to ensure safety of employees, especiallly female workers.
After months of deliberation, companies like Genpact and American Express have agreed to foot the charges incurred for the installation of GPS devices, as long as the cab owners repay the sum back within a stipulated time frame.
The safety of the employees being ferried in these cabs has been a worry for the BPO management and the city administration, having seen couple of incidents, which highlighted the need for better security. These incidents have been reported from different parts of the country and there has been consensus for long on use of GPS for better monitoring of the vehicles.
