Peer-to-peer carsharing company Getround has expanded to Los Angeles. Through its Getaround app, the company allows people to instantly rent and drive cars shared by people in their city.
It helps reduce the financial burden of car ownership and even make some money by listing their car on Getaround. Each car is equipped with Getaround Connect™, a proprietary technology that enables renters to locate and unlock the car using the Getaround app.
Citing an independent study the company has informed that for every one car shared, about ten are taken off the road. This means that for every 1,000 cars shared on Getaround, roughly 100M pounds of carbon dioxide are offset.
According to some reports, the popularity of shared mobility has seen an increase and is expected to rise further. A number of companies automakers, as well as technology companies, are entering this sector through investments and partnerships and the incumbents are consolidating their position, the list includes GM, Ford, BMW, Daimler, Waymo, Lyft, Uber etc.
