Telematics Ecosystem:

The telematics ecosystem can be divided into three layers: Services for end users( both vehicle-independent and vehicle-centric), the infrastructure enabling delivery of those services and stake holders who manage them.

Connected Cars

In the age of seamless connectivity, where the car is now seen as the centre for entertainment and information, we would in days to come, rely on our vehicles to keep us connected to the world. Driving too would become simpler and more enjoyable with wireless connectivity providing a safe ride.

Trends in Automotive Telematics (Cerfication, OBD II, Sensors, Vehicle Tracking System, Navigation)

During the last decade the world has witnessed a phenomenal evolution of Automotive Telematics. In India, it has been primarily an aftermarket solutions, is now seeing a shift with OBD-2 becoming mandatory in all commercial and passenger vehicles. It is also playing an important role in transport management. Automotive Telematics is providing valuable data to the manufacturers of vehicles.

Infotainment and Navigation:

Indian automotive market is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and "in-vehicle infotainment" is common for vehicle users. Infotainment is being made available in compact and mid-size vehicles, which includes navigation systems and wireless connectivity. It is becoming common to have driving directions through either infotainment panel or GPS enabled smartphones.

Telematics in Transport management:

Automotive Telematics has brought transparency in transportation. Sensors help transporters get immediate information in case of the theft or unscheduled unloading. Container tracking sends alerts if the trailer is detached from the truck.

VTS for Transport Management:

The use of vehicle tracking system has gained importance in transport management and asset protection. VTS helps in improving fleet efficiency through monitoring of the vehicle, fuel cost, load factor etc. One of the important areas where it is expected to make significant contribution is through the driver behaviour analysis and improvement. In-cab coaching can help train and improve upon the driving habits of the drivers.
