Baidu announces mass-production of its self-driving vehicles to start from July

Baidu going ahead with its plans to put driverless vehicles on road has announced that mass production of 100 self-driving electric vehicles will begin in July. The buses are based on Baidu’s open source autonomous driving software and have been made in collaboration with Chinese bus maker King Long.

The buses have no driver’s seat and have a capacity to carry 14 passengers. According to the Chinese media the vehicles will be confined areas in like tourist spots and airports for now. According to data released by California’s Department of Motor Vehicles Baidu’s self-driving is not at par with Waymo but this has not stopped the company to move ahead with its plans.
